Description of Webinar:

This Webinar will explore the resilience building strategies that couple and family therapist can use to support families with LGBTQ+ family members when navigating an often unwelcoming world.  We will explore some common experiences and varied reactions of parents, siblings, and grandparents raising a queer child as well as some of the issues that come up in mixed orientation partnerships.  Families can, and do overcome obstacles that result from negative societal attitudes about sexual and gender minorities, and our ability as family therapists to support strategies that build resilience can be a key to these families becoming stronger and more connected through the process.

In this webinar participants will learn to:

  • Describe the common experiences and reactions of families with an LGBTQ+ member
  • List the key components of resiliency in families with an LGBTQ+ member
  • Describe interventions that help build resilience in families with an LGBTQ+ member
